The Land of Milk and Honey... or Cheese and Chocolate, rather.

DAY 1
The Rover has left the building, or rather he hasn't, and isn't that the problem (more on this in a bit)?

So it was Valentine's day in Zurich. The previous night Val! and I toted our packs all 'round the town, from Hostel to Hotel, looking for the lowest price. Unfortunately, Switzerland is the most expensive place on the planet. I didn't want to get a hotel room. Val! stubbornly (thank the goodness) required we get one anyway. Truly it would have been misery (as we later found out in Paris) if we hadn't gotten a room. We woke up to a great breakfast of different breads, jams, honey, cheeses, nutella, coffee, juice, milk (I love that places have warmed milk here), and yogurt. Very yum yum.

We made our way to Swissôtel to catch up with our cousin Robert who surprised us with beautiful Valentine's day presents (purses, hair clips, and the best chips and salsa ever... we're deprived!) and wine (champagne and pinot noir). We immediately broke out the champagne and toasted to meeting up in Europe. Val! dug right into the chips and salsa. Little did we know then that the chips and salsa would be toted around much of Europe, providing comfort and sustenance many times when we desperately needed it. Nor did we know that Val! would, the next day, smash the bottle of Pinot Noir in an angry rage on the floor of the Zurich train terminal. Haha, just kidding. She had slippery fingers and we Every man should be tethered to a penis... or three.sadly lost the bottle of red wine we were so looking forward to imbibing on the train from Zurich to Paris.

The day turned out to be amazing as we toured the main shopping street (Banhofstrasse) where retail space is the most expensive in the world, saw the old area of town which is now very touristy, filled with all sorts of shops and traditionally Swiss eateries. Rob treated us to sausage (oops, I mean würst), which was quite good, and fondue. Later we checked our e-mail and were so happy to get news from home. Finally, we concluded the night with a stop by a bar that was very decorated for Valentine's day (everything in the city was). This was the first place that I decided to teach the bartender to make a margarita. I am pleased (note sarcasm) that she only charge me 10 CHF since it was a practice drink. Ahh well. Read all about our Zurich experience on our forum.

This was my plan for sleeping in Zurich. It was only 8 CHF. But nooo, locker sleeping was not good enough for Miss Snooty Britches.

She insisted on a hotel with a bed! Can you believe that? This was my favorite hotel so far. Val! quite enjoyed it too, as you can see.

View from the hotel window the next morning. See the mountain in the background? The mist has to burn off every morning.

Here I am with Ruffles posing in front of one of Val!'s favorite cars: Smart Cars! So CUTE!!!

Val!, aka Pack Mule, waits on the tram to take us to the train to take us to Rob. Phew!

Val! and I made a friend on our way to the train station. He has been to San Antonio. Pretty nifty.

I really loved the chubby flying chick in the Zurich station.

Val! enjoys the treat Rob brought for us. Tones of home... how awesome.

Love those chips and salsa.

Rob shoots me shooting him. Camera crazy! I can't wait to get the photos he took so I can add those too.

Rob purchases day passes for the 3 of us to ride the public transportation. Sweet! Otherwise we could've been fined 80 CHF.

Val! samples free Lindt chocolate before purchasing some as a Vday present.

Cool and bizarre tree. See how the day has brightened up?

Val! and Rob pose on our way to the old town.

I am such an artist. Val! really loves this photo.

Some cute little characters were painted on the side of the building. How Swiss!

And I thought Rob had a big mouth! Har har.

Oh yeah, the Swiss are also known for their impeccable clock-making ability... but I say who cares. They make cheese and chocolate!

I took this photo because it really reminded me of something Mike would like and it was too cute!

Really nifty old church across the river.

Another attractive view.

Oh pretty buildings.

Hey dude, you have a bird on your head.

Rob, Val! and I chilling in Zurich!

Same but different.

Here is another nice photo of the church closer up.

Cool sign and flags.

I think this balcony rocks because of those status. So awesome and Zeus like.

Aww, adorable. Val! and Rob in the old section of town.

Here I am with some very neat and tidy buildings behind me.

A little gnome on the window sill above Schmuck's bar. Hmm.. Appealing sounding place, isn't it?

The guy that wields the wurst.

Val! got a standard beef sausage.

Rob tried some lamb wurst but decided beef was better.

I got curried wurst. It was the best!!!

Val! and Rob are about to enjoy a tasty fondue experience.

Whoa no! Can Vallie handle the gruyere, wine, and some other kind of cheese I can't recall.

We had bread, potatoes, peaches, and pineapple to dip in our pot of queso.

Rob's not shy!

So happy to see the forum and snow in San Antonio! See how happy we are to see Patrick's update? Let that inspire y'all!

Rob enjoys a mojito at a Swiss bar. Valentine's day hearts were everywhere!

Val! and Rob not looking their most awake on the way home.

Go back to Zurich index.

Run away to Paris!
